Private Practice Rocks!

Thanks for taking time to read this post. I thought it was the best way to share some information about something that I'm really passionate about---private practice ownership. To start off, I'll share an experience I had when I was halfway through my senior year of high school. I was sitting in calculus class with a couple of friends, and we were talking about what we wanted to do when we grew up. My friend, Nate, said he wanted to be a dentist. My friend, Brant, said he wanted to be a physician, and I said I wanted to be an aerospace engineer. Instead of saying, "Oh, that's awesome, Aaron," they said, "Do you really want to work for someone for the rest of your life?" I realized at that moment that I did not. While I maybe could have been Elon Musk, that didn't seem feasible at the time. That night I changed my professional plans.
I didn't know a lot of business owners at the time , but I did know some dentists who owned their practice. Since I couldn't copy Nate, I chose to be an orthodontist. I had never had orthodontic treatment to that point in my life. I chose it primarily based on lifestyle and potentially being a business owner. It turns out I love so many things about orthodontics, but what got me started is the idea of private practice.
Fast forward several years, and now we're in this arena where DSOs are buying up significant numbers of orthodontic practices. I normally wouldn't think much about it except that many doctors I respected, and thought would never sell, sold to a DSO. It got me thinking: am I missing out on something? While I love owning my office, I also love my family. If there's an opportunity where I can create generational wealth, which has been said, then I probably should at least look into it.
